Precious jewelry needs cleaning too!

They say that the brilliance of gold is immortal, they say that silver of great purity always tells the truth and diamonds shine forever. When we chose to launch our collection of precious jewelry, we intended to create memories that will be passed down from generation to generation, making those symbols, shines and shapes that enlivened Grandma's fantasy, to be transmitted as such and inspire her. and the niece or great-granddaughter. However, in order to shine through future generations, precious jewelry needs maintenance, as we maintain most things - and as we maintain our memories.

So, in a nutshell, gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls also need proper maintenance. Yes, gold and diamonds are said to be indestructible, but when they are turned into jewelry, their lasting shine depends very much on the style of wearing them. Moreover, it depends on the chemistry of our body. The simple fact that jewelry is in contact with the skin can change its appearance over time through various oxidation processes and even by covering with the inevitable dead cells. Only rhodium-plated jewelry, that is, covered with a thin layer of rhodium, will never oxidize - it is made of very shiny silver, which does not turn black.

Jewelry worn while bathing, using various cosmetics or for home care is subject to additional stress that can affect not only the appearance and luster of pearls and stones, but even the appearance of gold and diamonds.

Jewelry will be much easier to clean if worn carefully and regularly maintained. As a result:

  • We don't recommend to wear jewelry at the gym, when running in the park, or at the beauty salon, or at the pool, or when cleaning the house.
  • Naturally oxidizing silver jewelry is ideal to be cleaned when it begins to show signs of fading (the time interval differs from person to person, depending on the environment in which they are worn). They can be cleaned at home with toothpaste, baking soda or salt. Gold jewelry is cleaned in baking soda or vinegar solutions. Ammonia can be effective for both gold and silver, but we must always take into account the recommendation not to leave the jewelry in contact with the solution too long. In all cases, either gold or silver or stones, we can first use soap and water or a little sanitary alcohol to effectively clean the jewelry of simple dirt deposits (especially in less accessible places). Special attention is required where stones are used and where jewelry has streaks, inscriptions, etc. Excessive soap can dampen porous stones, and excessive rubbing zeal can cause micro-scratches on pearls or stones and even on metal streaks. Use only soft brushes and polish the jewelry with a suede finish.

Yes, given that these operations should be carried out regularly, things are starting to get complicated - and it is for these cases that special cloths have been created for cleaning gold and silver jewelry.

We therefore encourage our customers to read carefully the maintenance instructions received with each product, as we recommend the use of Hagerty jewelry cleaning cloths, impregnated with special substances to clean silver and gold, respectively. They are super easy to use and offer cleaning efficiency based on scientific criteria. Cloths darken by successive uses, but do not wash with water because they lose their properties.

You can find them on the site here: Hagerty jewelry cleaning cloth - and for Wagne Arte jewelry purchased for minimum 700 lei, we offer free cloths.
